Paliodendro

Paliodendro is not far from the small traditional village of Metochi which also gazes. At the same time it has a wonderfull view of the pagasetic gulf.

This grove is at an altitude of about 160 meters above sea level with South orientation and a great slope. The soil consistency is Clay loam and its pH 7,2 (slightly alcalic) which makes it perfect for olive tree cutlivation. It covers a surface of 0,60 hectars and has about 60 trees. It is owned by our family for about 15 years when we inherited it from our grandfather "Plastiras".

Recent history

This plot was inherited about 15 years ago from our grandfather "Plastira". Quite interesting is the fact that a couple of decades ago the trees which were Amfisis variety were burned due to a wildfire. As a result our grandfather grafted the Kalamon variety on the new wild olive branches that grew from remaining root system, and they continue this way today.

Future plans

What we would like to achieve in this orchad is to maximize the production of the Kalamon variety in order to produce a monovarietal EVOO which is an unsual and not easily found olive oil.

Olive oil characteristics

The extra virgin olive oil that is produced with early harvest at this grove is quite different from those of the other groves. Firstly it has much more viscosity and doesnt have the balance of the Amfissis one. Though its quite interesting as  it is less fruity but more pungent and of equilavment bitterness. It is easy to recognize the aromas of green tomato leaves and some spices.υ
